Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
This policy explains how GameDev.az, an initiative by IGDA Azerbaijan (the data controller), collects, uses, and protects your personal data, and the rights you have over it. It applies to your use of the Platform alongside our Terms & Conditions.
1. Data we collect
- Account details you provide at sign-up and in your profile: name, username, email, phone number, country, city, specialization, and an optional workplace claim.
- Content you create: posts, comments, reviews, messages, games, articles, event and organisation details, and any images or files you upload.
- Usage & technical data: activity such as sign-in times, “last seen” heartbeats, and basic device/log data needed to run and secure the service.
2. How we use your data
- To create and operate your account and the community features.
- To display your profile and the content you choose to publish, according to your visibility settings.
- To moderate the Platform, enforce our Terms, and keep the service secure.
- To send service and notification emails you have opted into (for example, job alerts or event announcements).
- To send occasional newsletters and announcements, unless you have turned them off — see the next section.
3. Email, newsletters & delivery data
We keep a record of every email we send you: which message it was, the address we sent it to, when we sent it, and whether it was delivered, bounced or failed. We keep it so we can answer basic questions about our own service — whether a message you were expecting actually went out, and whether an address of ours is broken.
Our email provider also reports when a message is opened and when a link in it is clicked, and we store those events against the same record. We use them only to judge whether our own mail is worth sending. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not share them.
Newsletters are opt-out. Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link and the standard unsubscribe headers your mail app understands, and you can change the setting any time in your notification settings. Unsubscribing stops newsletters and announcements only — mail about things you actually do here (account activation, password resets, event tickets, replies to your job applications) continues, because those are part of the service rather than marketing.
If a message hard-bounces, or you mark one as spam, we add that address to a suppression list and stop sending bulk mail to it. That list is kept even if the associated account is deleted, precisely so we do not start mailing you again.
4. Legal basis & consent
We process your data based on your consent (given at registration), the performance of our service to you, and our legitimate interest in running and protecting the community. You can withdraw consent by adjusting your settings or deleting your account; this does not affect processing already carried out.
5. What's public and what's shared
- Some profile fields and the content you publish are visible to other users or the public. You control much of this from your privacy settings (for example, whether your phone or email is shown).
- If you claim a workplace, that studio or company may see your request in order to confirm it.
- We use trusted service providers (e.g. hosting, email, and media delivery) who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards. We do not sell your personal data.
6. Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
7. Your rights
You can access and correct most of your data directly in your account settings, and you may request deletion of your account. Subject to applicable law, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to request a copy of your data. To exercise these rights, contact IGDA Azerbaijan via the channels published on the Platform.
8. Cookies & sessions
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to secure the service. We do not use them to track you across other websites.
9. Security
Passwords are stored hashed, and we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
The Platform is not intended for children under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from them.
11. Changes & contact
We may update this policy and will revise the “last updated” date above. For questions or requests about your data, contact IGDA Azerbaijan through the contact channels published on the Platform.
